Queer enough
Do you feel queer enough?
She was talking about being in a relationship with someone who was completely closeted and how difficult it was, so that’s probably what she was projecting on me. But it was totally uncalled for!
I think it also stung, because for a long time, I felt like I wasn’t “queer enough.” Because I’m pan and have been in (seemingly) straight relationships. Because I’m not very savvy with all the queer terms. Because, apparently, I don’t look queer enough, whatever that means.
So, in the end, this person might’ve been just reflecting my insecurities back to me.
Months later, and many queer hangouts later, I’m happy to say I feel pretty queer enough, without a rainbow flag on my head. (But I do usually have a little rainbow pin on my purse—I always have, even when I was told I wasn’t queer enough!)
